Charging Guides and Fixes: Plain-English Troubleshooting
Most charging problems are not a broken device. They are a tired cable, a dirty port, a charger that cannot supply what the phone is asking for, or a battery setting doing exactly what it was designed to do. These guides go through the checks in order, cheapest and likeliest first.

Common questions
Why has my phone started charging slowly?
Usually the cable or the port. Try a different cable first, then look into the port with a light for compacted lint, which is the single most common cause and costs nothing to fix.
Can the wrong charger damage my phone?
No. The phone and the charger negotiate, and the phone only draws what it asks for, so a more powerful charger is safe. The real risk is uncertified cheap kit that skips that negotiation.
Why does my phone stop at 80 percent?
That is a battery health feature doing its job. Both iOS and Android learn your routine and hold the charge back until shortly before you normally unplug, because sitting at 100 percent ages the cells faster.
Is it bad to charge overnight?
Not on a modern phone. It reaches full, stops, and runs from the mains. Combined with the 80 percent feature above, overnight charging is now the gentlest pattern there is.
